Plain-English DPDP term

What is Marketing Consent?

Simple meaning

Marketing consent is a clear choice to receive promotional messages through stated channels for stated purposes.

A simple example

Agreeing to an order update does not automatically mean agreeing to sales calls and partner offers.

Why it matters

This term matters when a real person enters a form, uses a product, speaks to support or asks the company to act. The business should be able to explain the purpose, owner, systems, vendors, retention and proof in simple language.

What to check

Common mistake

Treating the definition as finished work. A clear definition is useful only when the team can apply it to a real data flow and keep evidence.

First useful action

Pick one customer or employee journey. Mark where this term changes a decision, then name the owner and the evidence that should exist.
