What is Encryption?
Simple meaning
Encryption changes readable data into protected data that needs the right key to be understood.
A simple example
A stolen encrypted database is harder to misuse when the keys are separately protected.
Why it matters
This term matters when a real person enters a form, uses a product, speaks to support or asks the company to act. The business should be able to explain the purpose, owner, systems, vendors, retention and proof in simple language.

- Write down where encryption appears in one real workflow.
- Name the person who owns the decision and the evidence.
- Check whether the privacy notice matches what the product or team actually does.
- Review every vendor, export and deletion step connected to the workflow.
Common mistake
Treating the definition as finished work. A clear definition is useful only when the team can apply it to a real data flow and keep evidence.
