What is Anonymisation?
Simple meaning
Anonymisation removes or changes identifying details so a person cannot reasonably be identified again.
A simple example
Simply deleting names may not be enough when location, age and rare behaviour still point to one person.
Why it matters
This term matters when a real person enters a form, uses a product, speaks to support or asks the company to act. The business should be able to explain the purpose, owner, systems, vendors, retention and proof in simple language.
What to check
- Write down where anonymisation appears in one real workflow.
- Name the person who owns the decision and the evidence.
- Check whether the privacy notice matches what the product or team actually does.
- Review every vendor, export and deletion step connected to the workflow.
Common mistake
Treating the definition as finished work. A clear definition is useful only when the team can apply it to a real data flow and keep evidence.

Pick one customer or employee journey. Mark where this term changes a decision, then name the owner and the evidence that should exist.
