Plain-English DPDP term

What does Accountability mean in DPDP Compliance?

Simple meaning

Accountability means a business can show who owns a data decision, what control exists and what evidence proves it works.

A simple example

A policy promise becomes accountable when a named owner tests the workflow and keeps the result.

Why it matters

This term matters when a real person enters a form, uses a product, speaks to support or asks the company to act. The business should be able to explain the purpose, owner, systems, vendors, retention and proof in simple language.

What to check

Common mistake

Treating the definition as finished work. A clear definition is useful only when the team can apply it to a real data flow and keep evidence.

First useful action

Pick one customer or employee journey. Mark where this term changes a decision, then name the owner and the evidence that should exist.
